Episode 6
The Truth About Plea Deals in Military Court
A lot of service members think that if they’re guilty, the only option is to plead guilty. That’s not true. And I don’t let the government or anyone else force my clients into a plea deal unless it’s absolutely the right move.
In this episode, I break down how we actually approach plea deals inside military court. I talk about the pressure tactics commands and prosecutors use to get service members to fold early and why pleading guilty just to make it all go away can leave you with a federal conviction, loss of benefits, or a lifetime of regret.
I don’t play games with plea offers. If there’s a way to fight the charges, I’ll find it. But sometimes, the facts are bad and that’s when we shift the strategy. I walk you through how I evaluate risk tolerance versus risk capacity, and why two people with the same charge sheet might make two totally different decisions based on their career, family, and what they’re willing to lose.
We don’t plead guilty because it’s easy. We plead guilty when it’s the smartest way to protect your future and not a second before.
